Skin Boosters

Aside from sagging skin, another tell-tale sign of aging is dull and dry skin lined with fine wrinkles. A new product on the market today that promises to regain a youthful, radiant look comes in the form of skin booster injections.

At our clinic, our skin booster injections are essentially dermal fillers that are similar to those used to treat laugh lines or marionette lines. These are all hyaluronic acid based fillers. The difference is that we use smaller-sized filler particles, which are injected more superficially into the dermis. This leads to the activation of fibroblasts that stimulates new collagen and elastin formation, which in turn results in improvement in skin quality and hydration.

Before the skin boosters are administered, the patient is first asked to wash his or her face thoroughly with facial cleansers provided. A special numbing cream is afterwards applied over the whole face for 10-20 minutes.

As soon as the face is prepped, a special injector gun equipped with 5- to 9-point injection holes is used to inject the fillers into the skin. The injection is done over the whole face. The whole procedure usually takes around 30 minutes to complete.

Slight redness over multiple injection sites is normal post-procedure and should subside after 3-5 days. This can be covered with concealer or makeup if necessary. Antibiotic cream is likewise prescribed to prevent infections and facilitate optimal healing.

We usually advise our patients to undergo 3 sessions of skin booster injections, with sessions spaced a month apart. The results should last around 12 months, after which the patient can get one skin booster shots every 6 months.
